Around Königsplatz and Pinakotheken the Kunstareal Munich presents almost five millennia of European cultural history. Nationally and internationally renowned collections of art, architecture, design, graphics, antique sculptures and scientific collections are open to interested visitors as well as researchers.

New impulses have been set by the reopening of the Lenbachhaus in May 2013 and the opening of the Staatliche Museum für Ägyptische Kunst (State Museum of Egyptian Art) in June 2013. The opening of the NS-Dokumentationszentrum on April 30, 2015 will expand the scope of Kunstareal München by an further important topic.

Complementing the diversity and density of museums and exhibition halls 6 internationally renowned universities, cultural institutes and galleries enable multifaceted synergies. Generous open spaces and attractive green areas offer ideal opportunities for the recreation of both residents and visitors of the Kunstareal. Kunstareal Munich is a cooperation between the State of Bavaria and the City of Munich, initiated and supported by the Stiftung Pinakothek der Moderne.
