The aircraft construction hangars in Schleißheim bring the fascination of flying to life for every visitor. The Flugwerft Schleißheim is located on Bavaria´s oldest airfield still in operation. The first planes took off there in 1912. The core of the museum building dates back to that era and is now flanked with a modern exhibition hall. In the historic hangar, where once planes were repaired and maintained, you find airplanes directly related to the history of the airport Schleißheim. Among them is the fighter plane Fokker D VII from World War I and the two-seater training plane Udet U 12 Flamigo.
The large exhibition hall displays original airplanes like the famous Heinkel He 111, the Douglas DC-3, and the Eurofighter EF-2000 DA 1. In addition there are gliders and various engines along with ground equipment and the huge, three-level rocket carrier Europa I. In the open workshop, you can watch restoration experts making historical planes look like new again.
